April 2017

Norman Garcia

Norman Garcia is currently a member of the Hayward Rotary Club; he began attending meetings in 2015 around Christmas time, and he quickly became involved with Sorensdale Recreation Center.   Norman volunteered for the Holiday shopping for the participants at Sorensdale. This Holiday spree gives the students special individualized gifts at the holidays, such as favorite videos, special clothing and even typical items taken for granted such as toothpaste and shampoo.

He has volunteered the last two years with the Sorensdale Holiday Gift giving, not only giving time with shopping for gifts, wrapping gifts after the shopping spree, and helping out at the Holiday Celebration, but has donated $2,000.00 from his Farmers Insurance office and convinced the corporate office to match him, making the total donation $4,000.00! His volunteerism and donations have made the last two years for participants at Sorensdale especially special and memorable.

His volunteerism doesn’t stop at Sorensdale, he volunteers for the Hayward Area Senior Center at the Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon, Child Spree, has served as a Salvation Army bell ringer, cooked for the Omelet Brunch, distributed dictionaries, donated to Arroyo High School, and worked the Nacho booth at the Rowell Ranch Rodeo. Norman is such an amazing person and a true believer in community service. It is with great pleasure that we nominate Mr. Garcia for Volunteer of the month.
