The Oakman Family has helped with the Annual Adopt A Family for several years. The family is part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and much of the donation and volunteer service is in collaboration with the Church.
In 2019 the Oakman Family coordinated the donation of 70 cases of food from the Santa Clara Bishops Storehouse of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Food ranged from spaghetti, green beans, rice, peanut butter, pears and peaches and much more. The family arranged for a literal U-Haul Truck full of food and transported it to Matt Jimenez Community Center the night before the Adopt A Family. The Oakman family then performed the back-breaking work to unload the food from the truck and bring the food inside the community center.
The Oakman family then arrived the next morning and participated in the distribution of the donated food to the families in need. In addition, they also assisted with coordination of other volunteers from the Hayward 2nd Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ.
The Oakman family has been great supporters of the Adopt A Family Program for several years. In the past they have ensured that every family receive not only food, but one year even provided a turkey for each family. They have been dedicated and reliable and their service is greatly appreciated.
There were over 35 families and over 100 individuals that were personally affected by their generosity; each family received a clothes basket full of food. The families were very appreciative and the donation of goods and time, helped bring more to the event, that would not have otherwise been possible.
