Sharon Daughtrey is currently a volunteer at Sorensdale Recreation Center. She works twice per week in the Treasure Chest Thrift Store. Sharon was instrumental in setting up the Thrift Store when it first opened, and she currently works to help organize items, directs Sorensdale participants with useful work skills and keeps the shop organized and tidy.
Sharon and her husband were the owners of the Daughtrey's Shop in Castro Valley. They provided integral support to Sorensdale by donating fixtures such as the checkout counter, cash register and helped set-up the shop. Drawing on her 26 years of retail and merchandising experience, Sharon keeps the Thrift Store organized and clean, giving shopper a positive experience. She assesses every item brought to Sorensdale to determine whether it is of high enough quality to be sold in the Thrift Store. She and her crew then sort and put items in bins for easy access. If clothing is of good quality but has a stain, Sharon removes the stain so that it will be sold. If the item is made of wood, but needs repair, she sends it to the Sorensdale woodshop class for repair. In addition to keeping the Thrift Store organized, she also keeps the stockroom organized and stocked in the store, which keeps shoppers coming back.
It is an understatement to say HARD is very lucky to have Sharon Daughtrey as such a dedicated volunteer. She is hardworking, dependable, and a friendly face at the Sorendsdale Treasure Chest Thrift Store who has made a huge impact.
We are pleased to honor Sharon with this well-deserved HARD Volunteer of the Month Recognition Award!
