Susie Newman began volunteering in July of 2009 at the Kenneth Aitken Senior Center. Susie volunteered in the Senior Nutrition Program, preparing and serving lunch alongside our chef on Wednesdays; which provided lunch to over 60 seniors. Susie was a great asset to this program, as she is extremely hard working and very efficient. Susie was an integral volunteer when our lunch program then transferred over to Spectrum. She helped assemble the lunches and serve the seniors with her wonderful smile.
Susie also helps out with special events held at the Senior Center. During our Spring and Fall Flea Markets Susie would help staff the Bake Sale area and make numerous cookies, breads and bars to sell during the event. Some participants would just come to the event to purchase her baked goods, they are delicious! Susie also lends a hand to our Senior Health and Wellness Fair in May, helping prepare and assemble 80 vendor lunches. Finally, Susie volunteers her talents to our extremely successful Holiday High Tea in December. With her guidance staff has been able to revamp the menu and offer a wonderful experience to all attendees. Susie graciously prepares her homemade date nut bread and chocolate brownies for 75 participants. Everyone raves on how scrumptious everything is. She also purchases flavored teas for the event. This event now sells out every year, with all looking forward to the delicious baked goods and fine teas.
In addition to volunteering in HARD's Senior Adult Programs, Susie also volunteers her time at her church, Eden United Church of Christ in Hayward, helping with the food pantry held twice a month. Susie recently moved to to the Danville area, and we are thankful that Susie continues to volunteer with us and share her time and talent. The Kenneth Aitken Senior Center is very fortunate to have Susie volunteer and help out with various programs through the years. She goes above and beyond and is a great asset to the District and the Senior Programs!
