OCTOBER
2008
has been selected for the Monthly Volunteer Recognition
Award for October 2008. She has volunteered at the Kenneth C. Aitken
Senior and Community Center since October of 1998.
Dolores first began volunteering at the Kenneth C. Aitken Senior Center
ten years ago, where she would bring candy and candy bars to the Senior
Center and pass them out to all of the participants before lunch. This
generous gesture gave her the nickname "Candy Lady". These
candies were donated by her and her husbands' business and equated to
a significant value. Since her start, Dolores has also become a
fixture for the Monday and Wednesday nutrition program, in which she
rarely misses a day. Dolores volunteers four hours each day where
she helps set the luncheon tables, serves coffee and meals to participants
and passes out dessert. This work is very strenuous and physically
active with a lot of standing, but Dolores never complains. She
loves seeing her friends for lunch and volunteering in this capacity. Besides
all the time and effort she donates to the lunch program, Dolores also
purchases her own lunch ticket (when volunteers are usually given a complimentary
luncheon) and she donates raffle prizes to all of our holiday lunches,
which help raise money for the Senior Program donation fund. She
also helps decorate the facility for special events.
Dolores is a very efficient and dependable volunteer. The District's
Senior Programs are very lucky to have Dolores as such a dedicated volunteer. She
is very hardworking and a friendly face at the center. Dolores
gets along with everyone and always makes a point to welcome new people,
help them find a seat and make them feel welcome and part of the "Senior
Center family". Dolores has made a huge impact on the Center,
staff, volunteers and participants in the ten years she has been at the
Center and pleased to honor Dolores Cava who is very s deserving of the
award.
Her picture will be displayed in the District Administration Office
and on the District website as the Monthly Volunteer Recognition Awardee
for October 2008. In addition, she will be eligible for the Volunteer
of the Year Award for 2008, which will be announced in January 2009.
Renay is a reflection of today's volunteers. She is a graduate of UCLA. She is a working parent and very busy, yet she finds the time to help out in the community and Volunteer Hayward is happy to have this very hard working volunteer on board.
Her picture will be displayed in the District Administration Office as the Monthly Volunteer Recognition Awardee for October 2007. In addition, she will be eligible for the Volunteer-of-the-Year Award for 2007, which will be announced in January 2008. |
