has been selected for the Monthly Volunteer Recognition
Award for May 2010. She has been a dedicated volunteer in the Special
Needs Program at Sorensdale Recreation Center and has donated 271.25
volunteer hours since first becoming a volunteer in the Special Needs
Program in July 2009.
Melissa has proven to be an asset and a great addition to Sorensdale, which is
demonstrated by the support she gives to the staff and the teachers, and the
attention that she provides to the small group of students that she works with
to help them with their reading, writing and phonic skills. The reading
ability and comprehension of those students have greatly improved, thanks to
the hard work and dedication of Melissa. She also helps out in the Physical
Fitness Class and regularly takes groups out on a one to three-mile walk around
the facility, paying special attention to the students and their stories. Melissa
also takes time out to help with the Relaxation Classes and works with some students
on deep breathing and calming exercises. If all of the above is not enough,
Melissa finds time for the gardening class, where she helps students plant seeds
and paint flower pots.
She has proven to be a resourceful volunteer and a great addition to
Sorensdale Recreation Center, always willing to assist where needed and
has made a positive impact on the staff, teachers and participants in
the Special Needs Program at Sorensdale Recreation Center.
Melissa will be eligible for the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2010,
which will be announced in January of 2011. |
