and were selected for the Monthly Volunteer
Recognition Award for April 2009 for their dedication and hard work in
the Volunteer Services Program where they have been volunteers for the
past two years. Julie is a graduate of Mt. Eden High School and the University
of California Davis and currently works for the Hayward Unified School
District. Julie brought Zach along on one of her volunteer adventures. Zach
is also a graduate of Mt. Eden High School, and attended Chabot and the
College of San Mateo. He currently works for Injex in Hayward, and hopes
to become a police officer in the future.
Julie and Zach's contribution to the Volunteer Services Program are
many and wide-ranging. They generously give their time to assist the
Hayward Senior Center staff with dinner dances and special events; bag
and distribute groceries to 100 seniors on the 2nd and 4th Friday of
every month; assist with preparation for National Volunteer Week and
the District's Annual Volunteer Recognition Brunch; pick up donations
and help out with many tasks for Prom Possible, Adopt-A-Family/Holiday
Programs, Scholastic Warehouse Book Sale; Summer Olympics and enthusiastically
help out at special events of H.A.R.D., the City of Hayward and the Hayward
Unified School District.
Julie and Zach, who are employed full-time, care deeply about their
community and always find time to give back. Volunteer Services appreciates
their willingness and enthusiasm, and their readiness to assume the extra
responsibilities.
Julie and Zach's contributions are significant and they take volunteering
very seriously. Moreover, it was impossible to nominate one without the
other.
They will be eligible for the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2009,
which will be announced in January. |
