Congratulations to Our Volunteer of the Month

SEPTEMBER 2008 Ms. Jo Anne Stark-Faria has been selected for the Monthly Volunteer Recognition Award for September 2008.  She has been a hard working and dedicated volunteer at the Hayward Senior Center every Monday and Friday since April 2004 and has donated 274 volunteer hours so far in 2008. Her main responsibility is working at the front desk, where she easily maneuvers answering many phone calls and greeting seniors who are visiting the Center in a smooth fashion. In addition, she provides information and referrals to seniors, schedules appointments for legal and tax assistance, health screening and insurance counseling.  The information available at the receptionist desk is a vital component of the Senior Center operation and a vital part of the health and wellness of our seniors.  Jo Anne is a multi-talented person and helps in many other ways.  She decorates and updates the bulletin boards, makes beautiful centerpieces for special events and works in the kitchen and the boutique as well.  She volunteers in the Income Tax and Homeowners and Renters programs that assist mostly low-income senior citizens.  Jo Anne demonstrates a willingness to help out whenever and where ever she is needed -- she has helped in the annual Coat Drive, Prom Possible, Adopt A Family, the annual Food Drive and the annual Flu Shot Clinic.  She is outgoing, friendly, knowledgeable and just the kind of person and volunteer needed to promote the District’s programs and events. Jo Anne is dedicated to the seniors and the community at large.  The Staff is very thankful for all of the time and energy that she has donated to the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, and continues to be a great asset.  Staff is very pleased to recognize her as recipient of the Monthly Volunteer Recognition Award for September 2008. Her picture will be displayed in the District Administration Office as the Monthly Volunteer Recognition Awardee for September 2008.  In addition, she will be eligible for the Volunteer-of-the-Year Award for 2008, which will be announced in January 2009.
