has been selected for the Monthly Volunteer Recognition Award for May. He has been a volunteer in the Theatre Arts Program since 2004.
Jeff Stevens is a student at Castro Valley High School. He began volunteering at the Douglas Morrisson Theatre in 2004, when he worked sound for the Theatre’s production of Do I Hear A Waltz? Since that time he has volunteered his time to work in the sound and lighting department for over twenty (20) productions.
As a sound operator he works closely with the actors to instruct them in the proper use and maintenance of the wireless microphones used in the Theatre’s musicals. During a performance he listens carefully to the show and adjusts microphone levels to balance the actor’s performance with the sound of the show’s live orchestra. This often involves balancing 10 or more actors at a time. Sound mixing for live performance is a difficult job, which Jeff has performed very skillfully for many large cast musicals, including, The Sound of Music, Camelot, Annie, Oliver and most recently, Urinetown.
Jeff is a smart and creative problem solver. He researched, recommended and obtained the sound software used by the Theatre’s sound department. He is always willing to share his expertise and his time to make things happen. He recently worked long hours to perfect the coordination of the lighting and sound cues for the special effects of Urinetown.
Jeff is liked and respected by everyone who works with him. If Jeff is any measure of the next generation of theatre workers, the future of the art of live theatre will be in very good
hands. The Theatre Art Program is proud to recognize Jeff Stevens as the May 2008 Volunteer of the Month.
His picture will be displayed in the District Administration Office as the Monthly Volunteer Recognition Awardee for May 2008. In addition, he will be eligible for the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2008, which will be announced in January 2009.
