Congratulations to Our Volunteer of the Month

Arabelle BrittonMs. Arabelle Britton has been selected for the Monthly Volunteer Recognition Award for April 2007.  She has been an incredible volunteer at Sulphur Creek Nature Center for almost eight (8) years, during which time she has logged almost 2,400 volunteer hours as a Junior Counselor, nicknamed "Caterpillar" for the Wildlife Camp; a volunteer Wildlife Docent and a volunteer in the Wildlife Hospital, caring for and feeding the residents and the injured, orphaned and sick animals.  She officially began volunteering at the tender age of 10 and has become a favorite with all who work with her.  In addition to all that Arabelle has contributed to the Sulphur Creek Nature Center, she has volunteered at the Douglas Morrisson Theatre as a spotlight operator and stagehand for the last three (3) years.

Her sensitivity to children and mature attitude with adults has helped her to accomplish many feats at Sulphur Creek.  She was accepted as the youngest volunteer into the Wildlife Docent Program, where she learned how to handle and present wild animals and make educational presentations, which became an extremely valuable asset for the Nature Center and the District as Arabelle has used it at the Wildlife Camp, fairs and festivals, the Wildlife Fair, Unhaunted House, Flight to Freedom and even at Grandparents' Day at the Kenneth C. Aitken Senior and Community Center.  In addition to her educational talents, Arabelle has been volunteering each and every Sunday since age 13 in the Wildlife Hospital, caring and working with the Lending Library animals, cleaning cages and preparing food for the wildlife residents.  At the age of 16, she became a "mammal mom" that requires a tremendous amount of patience and skill for the 24-hour care needed.

She is able to step in, always with a smile to help out with any task.  It is not too often that we are able to have such a versatile, dynamic and energetic volunteer that can fill so many shoes and is so easy to get along with.  Arabelle is an extraordinary person, with many talents and very worthy of the Monthly Volunteer Recognition Award.

Her picture will be displayed in the District Administration Office as the Monthly Volunteer Recognition Awardee for April 2007.  In addition, she will be eligible for the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2007, which will be announced in January, 2008.
