
The Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Centeropened its doors to the
public in 1986. To honor this important milestone, we are celebrating
throughout 2011 with special programs, art shows, and new interpretive
exhibits.
25th Anniversary Celebration Events:
February 12, 2011 "My Shoreline Valentine" – 1pm to 4pm. Artist
workshop from 1:00pm to 4:00pm where participants will hike the
trail
with a naturalist and then join 2 local artists, Will Tait and
Rebecca
Fogg in an art project. Class#10721 Fee: $5
May 21, 2011 Gateway to the Salt Marsh: the History of the
Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center –Exhibit Opening and
District Acknowledgements – 10am to Noon. Members of the public
and are invited to join HARD Board Members, administration and
current and past staff naturalists during this reception marking
the
anniversary and opening of the history of HSIC exhibit. Light
refreshments will be served.
July 9, 2011 "Shark Encounters" – Naturalist staff will
offer the
public the chance to get up close and personal with the most
misunderstood and feared animals of the Bay – sharks! There will
be
craft activities; live animal exhibits as well as the unveiling
of our new
refrigerated saltwater aquarium for all participants. Registration
required beginning in summer 2011.
September 2011 "Educational Open House" – A night for
teachers, educators and other organizations to come and learn more
about the growing number of educational opportunities available
at
HSIC.
October 2011 "Sea-Level Rise – Stakeholders Discussion" –
the
Interpretive Center will host presentations from organizations
-
including the Hayward Area Shoreline Planning Agency, HASPA – about
planning ideas for sea level rise based on prevailing projections.
