School Programs conducted Wednesday through Friday by reservation. Perched on stilts above a salt marsh, the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center is your introduction to the ecology of the San Francisco Bay-Estuary. The Interpretive Center features exhibits, programs and activities designed to inspire a sense of appreciation, respect and stewardship for the Bay, its inhabitants and the services they provide. After getting an overview of the park and its features, join a naturalist on one of the many weekend interpretive programs offered.
On Display in the Main Exhibit Hall:
"An Artist Takes the Long View"
Recent works by Mark Mertens
April 5 through June 29, 2008

Spectacular vistas and expansive landscape paintings of local artist Mark Mertens are on display this spring at the Center. Mr. Mertens has recently been selected as one of the artists to create paintings for the new Castro Valley Library. 25% of artwork sales are donated to the Center to enhance and improve education programs.
Prospective Exhibitors: The Interpretive Center has a large exhibit space with vaulted ceiling and moveable display panels. We are always interested in any form of art exhibit that highlights local wildlife, wetland or Bay ecology, or any theme in keeping with our goal of educating and entertaining the public. If you are an artist interesting in holding an art show at the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center, please contact the Program Director at 510-670-7270 to set up an appointment.
Weekend Weeds Warriors: Once a month, join naturalist Luke Spencer to help eradicate the shoreline of invasive, non-native plants. Have a positive impact on the environment and enjoy the beautiful landscape of the shoreline while completing service hours. Call 510-670-7270 to register.

Bus: Catch the 83 bus at either Hayward or South Hayward BART. Get off at Clawiter and Breakwater ('76 gas station is across the street). Walk along Breakwater to the right of the gas station parallel to the closest freeway traffic. After approximately 1 mile, you will see the Interpretive Center. It's the last building on the street, a brown wooden building on wooden pier-like stilts. When returning, go to the bus stop across the street from the stop where you got off (goes to either Hayward or South Hayward BART).
