41st Area Artists' Annual Juried Exhibition
Exhibition Dates: October 20–December 8, 2018
Eligibility and Requirements
All Bay Area artists are invited to submit work to Adobe Art Gallery’s 41st Area Artists' Annual Juried Exhibition located at 20395 San Miguel Avenue, Castro Valley, CA 94546. Most 2D and 3D media accepted. We have a TV for a single time-based media to be shown. Please submit via thumb drive or inquire about sending digitally. Work must be original and not previously shown at Adobe Art Gallery. Work larger than 42 inches in height and width will be installed only as space permits at the discretion of the gallery director. Maximum weight is 50 lbs. Artwork must be professionally mounted and wired if framed. Plexiglass is preferred over glass. Please inquire about work that requires special handling or installation. All selected works must remain for the duration of the show. Adobe Art Gallery reserves the right of final selection of work shown.
A nonrefundable entry fee of $25 for up to two pieces is payable when artwork is delivered. Please bring cash or a check payable to H.A.R.D. Discounted entry fee of $20 for Adobe Gallery volunteers (with >6 hours in 2018) and A.R.T., Inc. Members.

10/04: 6–8pm & 10/06: 10am–12pm–Hand deliver artwork to Adobe Art Gallery 20395 San Miguel Ave., Castro Valley.
Work may be dropped off in protective packaging or shipped to Attn: Leah Virsik/Adobe Art Gallery, H.A.R.D. District Office, 1099 'E' Street, Hayward, CA 94541 from 09/24–10/04 between 9am-1pm and 2–5pm. If shipped, include return shipping and entry fee payable to H.A.R.D. Please also email firstname.lastname@example.org to inform gallery to expect the work.
10/11: 12pm–Artists Notified of Jury Decision
10/11: 6–8pm and 10/13: 10am–3pm*–Artists pick up work not selected by juror
10/20: 1–3pm Awards and Reception for the Artists Awards will be announced at 1:45pm. Please bring artist statement/bio/resumé for binder.
12/08: Exhibit ends

*Work left after this time incurs a $5 storage fee per day/per artwork.
Juror Information and Awards
René de Guzman is the senior curator of art at the Oakland Museum of California (OMCA). He joined OMCA’s staff in 2007 to complete the reinstallation of the Gallery of California Art. Previously, de Guzman was Director of Visual Arts at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) in San Francisco where he worked with emerging and mid-career local, national, and international artists for 15 years. De Guzman’s work both at OMCA and YBCA is marked by an ongoing commitment to experimentation and innovation, and the creation of community around cultural activity. De Guzman has been an active art educator and currently serves as Adjunct Professor in the Graduate Division of the Curatorial Studies Program at the California College of the Arts. René de Guzman will jury the actual artwork and will select Awards of Merit ($150) and Honorable Mentions. Additionally, a work will be selected for the Mona Froyland Memorial Award. All awards will be announced at the reception.
Sale of exhibited work will be conducted through Adobe Art Gallery and all applicable sales tax will be charged. Adobe Art Gallery requires a 30% commission of the sale price from the artist. A completed W-9 is required from Artist in order to process payment. In the event of sale, artist will receive 70% portion of sale via check from H.A.R.D. usually within four to six weeks of exhibit end date. Artist will be notified of work(s) sold, date sold, name and contact information of patron, price sold, and amount due to artist.
Artist agrees to allow Adobe Art Gallery to use photographic reproductions of work to document and promote the exhibition. Please email images of your artworks for publicity (300dpi/6"x8"/jpg) to email@example.com. Name as: LastNameFirstNameTitle.jpg
Artist will provide their own insurance if desired. H.A.R.D. is self-insured and does not carry insurance for items submitted to the Gallery and cannot be responsible for any loss or damage. All work is submitted at the Artist’s own risk. The Gallery will make every effort possible for safe handling of all work. Additionally, the Gallery is secured with an alarm system and is under the protection of Parks and Recreation security personnel.
