Toddler Ramble

Enjoy Fridays with your child at the Interpretive Center. Your little one will discover the shoreline through hands-on experience. Every month there is a new theme, with each week exploring that theme through different activities. Parents and caregivers grow as facilitators of nature education along the way.

Nature Detectives

Nature Detectives is a program for 3 to 5 year old children and their caregivers, designed to inspire curiosity and imagination by exploring the natural world through hikes, experiments and crafts. It meets on the first Saturday of every month as well as every Friday afternoon.

Leopard Shark Feeding Frenzy

Compass Exploration


Can you point to the Pacific Ocean? How about to the North Pole? Learn to use a compass, the sun, and land features to find your way while hiking on a hill that allows you to get the whole Bay into perspective. Then use GPS units to find a hidden treasure! Meet at the West Winton trailhead near 3050 West Winton Avenue, Hayward.

It's a Small, Small World


Life is everywhere, and most of it is tiny! We'll take a short hike along the shoreline to collect some samples then use microscopes to delve into the incredible world of algae, diatoms, copepods, worms, and more. Hikes for Tikes


In this new six-week program we will check out a different HARD park each week to highlight the fabulous outdoor spaces for young ones and their caregivers to discover. We will examine each area through hands on exploration and games. Dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes, and be ready for natural adventures! We will meet in the parking lots of each location.

First Peoples History Walk


Learn about the different inhabitants of the San Francisco Bay throughout known history and the different ways they utilized the natural resources found here. This walk starts at our Visitor Center, treks through the marsh land, and goes out to the open Bay.
