Theatre Volunteers

Volunteering for the Douglas Morrisson Theatre
Douglas Morrisson Theatre volunteers provide the theatre with thousands of hours of labor each year and are involved in all aspects of the theatre's operations. Without volunteers the theatre could not operate. Volunteers range in age from 15 to 70+ years. Volunteers under the age of 18 do require parental consent to work at the theatre. Some of the jobs available to volunteers require special skills and/or training. We do our best to train interested volunteers to perform these jobs:

Volunteers in the Costume Shop work as seamstresses. To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years of age and have knowledge of basic clothing construction. Volunteer hours can be arranged with Costume personnel at 510-881-6760.

Volunteers in the Lighting Department hang the lighting plot, patch, focus, and load the program into our computerized light board. Volunteer hours can be arranged with the master electrician or technical director at 510-881-6706.

Performance Crews
Volunteers for the performance crews must be available to work the performances on Thursday through Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm. Job sharing can be arranged with other trained volunteers.

The prop crew shifts props, prepares and cleans up stage food, and assists the scenery crew as needed. The scenery crew shifts the large, scenic pieces and furniture. The booth crew consists of the light board operator, followspot operators, and sound operator. Volunteer hours can be arranged with the technical director at 510-881-6706.

Eight ushers are needed for each performance. Ushers must be 16 years of age or older. Usher scheduling is handled by the box office staff at 510-881-6777.
